Congressman Bera Votes Against Bill to Block California from Setting Vehicle Emissions Standards

U.S. Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06) today voted against legislation introduced by House Republicans that would prevent California from setting its own vehicle emissions standards. Seventeen other states and the District of Columbia have followed California’s lead and adopted all or some of California’s robust clean car standards.

“California continues to lead the nation in bold environmental policies that keep our communities safe and healthy,” said Congressman Ami Bera “California’s vehicle emissions waiver has not only protected families from harmful pollutants for decades, but also fostered job growth and played a pivotal role in our collective fight against climate change. Rather than seeking to undermine California’s and other states’ ability to set their own vehicle emissions standards, House Republicans should work collaboratively with California towards a healthier and more sustainable future.”

Congressman Bera voted for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act, two historic new laws that target dangerous air pollution caused by vehicles. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is investing $7.5 billion in EV charging, $10 billion in clean public transportation, and over $7 billion in EV battery components. The Inflation Reduction Act includes rebates and tax credits that save working families thousands of dollars on their energy bills and lowers the costs of purchasing electric vehicles.
